For more than 35 years, the Office of the Employer Adviser (OEA) has helped Ontario employers with their workplace safety and insurance claims and related costs.
We provide expert legal advice to any size employer and represent primarily employers who employ fewer than 100 workers. Our legal services are confidential, and you will never be charged a fee because the OEA is funded through the premiums or administrative fees you pay to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
We are an independent agency of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD). Our services are available throughout Ontario.
Workplace safety and insurance services for employers
Legal Services
Our paralegals and lawyers focus on resolving disputes early in the WSIB’s process and work to ensure you are treated fairly at all levels in the workplace safety and insurance system. We provide the information you need to get injured workers back to work safely and offer practical solutions on claims and revenue matters.
Experienced OEA advocates represent employers before the WSIB and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT). Our representation work focusses on employers with fewer than 100 workers.
Education
Our team presents webinars and education sessions to inform employers about their rights and obligations under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 (WSIA).
Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) unlawful reprisal services for employers
The OEA assists employers facing unjust reprisal allegations raised under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
Legal Services
Our legal professionals respond to your questions on potential reprisal allegations, understanding the short deadlines set by OHSA. We provide employers with proactive strategies to help avoid unjust reprisal proceedings.
We can represent employers with fewer than 50 workers on applications at the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB). We can assist in all aspects of the unlawful reprisal legal proceeding including completing the OLRB’s response form, attending the mediation, and presenting an employer’s case at the hearing.
Education
We conduct online webinars and educational seminars to inform and educate employers about their rights and obligations under the OHSA on unjust reprisal allegations.
